Produced in Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts at Greensboro on Sunday 11th January 2026, the show that transcends all ages continues its spectacular tours all over the world.
Referred to as a phenomenon in both West End and New York’s Broadway, and praised as one of the most symphonic plays of all time, Les Mis still remains as one of the must-see adaptations of contemporary stage plays. The musical's tragic yet endearing story of dreams, love, sacrifice, and redemption has brought viewers to tears in each of the show's showings.
Follow the story of Jean Valjean and an unforgettable company of characters, living in the scene of the chaotic era of 19th Century Paris. Make use of this opportunity you have and secure the best seats you can, to witness this intensely emotional stage adaptation!
In 1980, a star show was born when Jean-Marc Natel, Claude-Michel Schönberg, and Alain Boubil wrote the initial musical screenplay for the now-famous musical, Les Misérables (originally in French). Based on Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel of the same name, Les Misérables was modified into a musical performed as a show only sung from start to finish, which was a unique approach to stagecraft in that time period.
After an initial showing in Paris, France, there was already a growing demand to produce an English show, and once Cameron Macikintosh discovered the soundtrack, he was so inspired and announced he was going to create an English interpretation in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Herbert Kretzmer, who wrote the translated songs. The English production of the musical at first performed with a two-month run at the Barbican Centre, but due to its financial success and repeatedly sold-out shows, the show quickly relocated to West End’s Palace Theatre in just two months, London theatre's premier location, and ran for close to two decades. Les Mis then transferred once again to another location, the Queen’s Theatre (which after some time was renovated and renamed to The Sondheim Theatre in 2019), and carries on with its shows up until today. If you include all its productions since its creation four decades ago, Les Misérables is as it happens, the longest-running musical so far in this generation.
With almost 40 years in West End alone and not even counting its productions in other countries, including and definitely not limited to its sold-out shows on Broadway, it is undeniable that Les Misérables perseveres and is astounding in the perspective of the play's audiences. The plot and the epic musical score, which revolves around redemption, passion, and selfless love, tugs on a viewer's heartstrings due to the revealed heart beneath the surface of each character and act performed. Les Mis has become so successful that the show has been converted to motion pictures several times and gained loyal fanbases even on a separate medium.
This upcoming January’s production of Les Mis has it in North Carolina, where the show will be running on Sunday 11th January 2026, in Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts, Greensboro.
