Following its 1959 premiere, it became clear that Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’s very last masterpiece, created alongside playwrights Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, was destined for great things.
No musical can hold the candle next to ‘The Sound Of Music’ when it comes to the amount of adored and well-known numbers; a musical that can remain as relevant and treasured for nearly seven decades as ‘The Sound Of Music’ does not exist; and a tale as heart-warming, yet filled with major social issues, is yet to be created.
