Synopsis
Set in the diverse and authentic streets of Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, the story follows 17-year-old Ali, a spirited teen’s path to finding herself amid her watchful single mother’s watchful eye. Follow Ali as she rebels and uncovers her musical gift through piano lessons with her insightful mentor, Miss Liza Jane, and kindles a romance with street drummer Knuck. Tensions rise with family drama involving her estranged father, Davis. Through victories and challenges, Ali learns to accept her expression, her origins, and the community that shapes her. This universal and heartfelt coming-of-age journey is filled with rebellion, love, and music.

Hell's Kitchen began development in 2011, based on Alicia Keys' personal experiences. It premiered Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2023 to critical acclaim, extending its run before moving to Broadway in 2024, with previews starting March 28 and an official opening on April 20. The show earned 13 Tony Award nods in 2024, securing Best Actress in a Leading Role for Maleah Joi Moon and Best Featured Actress for Kecia Lewis. In 2025, it won the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.
